Twinkling Christmas lights, a festive holiday wreath, and a snowman cookie jar were a few items we decorated our home with this past weekend. It was a joyous occasion, complete with Christmas music softly playing in the background.
Every year, Christmas is a different experience for each of our girls. Last year, my youngest was crawling around the tree. Now, she helps place ornaments on the lower branches and pretend plays with our toy, nativity scene. My oldest is especially attuned to the excitement of Christmas, as she eagerly and strategically places ornaments round the tree. Made-up Christmas songs, many of which she only knows the words to, are loudly sung throughout our house. Christmas is truly the most wonderful time of the year! Have you experienced the thrill of the season yet?
Later during the weekend, my girls settled down on the couch as my husband shared the true story of Christmas with them. “Jesus is what Christmas is all about,” he shared. As his story unfolded, I watched as my oldest intently listened. This Christmas, my prayer is for her to sense the excitement and joy of celebrating the coming of Jesus, our Savior. I don't want her to miss the true meaning of Christmas in all the elaborate displays and busyness of the season. I imagine, our Father, desires the same for us.
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. . .”
John 1:14a, NIV
Can you hear the joy and hope proclaimed in that verse? Everything changed when Jesus came! Let's not miss out on celebrating the true meaning of Christmas this year.
Today we begin a four-week long, Christmas Bible study. Please join us! We will begin our study reading in John 1 this week. Please click here to download the reading guide. Let's read more from John 1:14.
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
As you read this verse, consider these questions:
Based on this verse, who is Jesus?
What does this verse equate Jesus's glory to?
