Dear Sweet Sister,
Can we share a minute or two over coffee? Would you lean in, just for a moment, to hear these words I'm about to share with you?
We were made to seek God. Did you realize? I never knew for the longest time, and now I bask in this truth: We were made to seek him, (Acts 17:26-27). But, let me be real here. It's hard. Life's complicated. I don't always thrive in him. I'm overwhelmed by the world. My list. My responsibilities. My life as a whole. I live as if it's all about me, can't you see? Some mornings I push aside my time with him just as quickly as I push the coffee maker button on.
Other days, it's simply a struggle just to get out of bed. I'm sure you know—motherhood equates to many sleep deprived days. I struggle on these days, just the same, to spend time with him and read his Words.
Can you relate?
If so, may I whisper words of encouragement to you today?
(And if we truly were sitting down to a cup of coffee, talking about our struggles of reading the Bible, I'd offer these very same words—as a reminder to myself as well.)
Just read it.
Maybe one day you read a verse or a chapter. There may be other days you have the time and energy to study more intently. Whatever you do, just read the Bible. Do whatever it takes to abide in Christ.
Pray as you read.
Ask God to help you understand his Words. Pray for him to open your eyes as you read it, (Psalm 119:18, Ephesians 1:17-19). Ask him for a hunger to read his Words.
Believe in the power of the Word.
Jesus is the Word, (John 1:14). Apart from him we can do nothing, (John 15:4). He sanctifies us in his truth, (John 17:17).
Maybe one day we'll actually share a cup of coffee. Who knows? Until then, I pray you are encouraged by these words of truth today.
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12, ESV
