4 Ways to Never Give Thanks

November 13, 2017 by Sandra Bretschneider in thanksgiving, praise

“How does she have time to do all that?!” I shout to my husband. It's one of those days when I'm on a passionate rant, quickly comparing my life with another. Haven't I learned by now? If I look around, I'll always find someone better than me.

Motherhood is Full of Good Gifts

May 06, 2016 by Sandra Bretschneider in motherhood, praise, thanksgiving

The sun peeks through my window this early morning. The night sky is dissipating. My youngest daughter, who is merely two weeks old, is lovingly held in my arms. She awoke to satisfy hunger, and now she gradually drifts back to sleep. I smile as I hold her close, listening to the quiet noises she makes. I'm captivated by her delicate features. She is a beautiful gift from God.

Some time between last week's post and today, my season of waiting came to an end. And you know what else? God allowed me to experience a great miracle—the birth of life. We welcomed our third daughter into the world on April 14. What a beauty she is! She is a joy and a delight for all of us.

What's More Powerful Than a Tornado?

February 29, 2016 by Sandra Bretschneider in praise

Its path hit less than a half mile away from my house. That's how close I was to the tornado that destroyed parts of Pensacola this past week. I had never heard the sound of a tornado until then, but I assure you, the sound was unforgettable.

Oh, The Joys!

September 07, 2015 by Sandra Bretschneider in motherhood, praise

Oh, the joys of silence! It's the evening hour, and after a long day, my thoughtful husband graciously offered to take our daughters out. Just a few moments ago, our home was filled with life. Talking, laughing, and whining all came from my three and one year old daughters. Now I sit here in the silence, contemplating my free time, and surveying the day's aftermath.

Doing Less is Better

A spectacular display of serene beauty awakened the night sky. There were no clouds above, just vast space and billions of brilliant stars. I sat still in the darkness, gazing with wonder at the familiar, yet distant night sky.

Oct 16, 2017

The wind whipped fiercely across the boulder field, dropping air temperatures below freezing. Though the sunset was perfectly glorious amid the horizon of mountainous silhouettes, less daylight meant a greater danger.

One Truth That Will Change Everything
Sep 18, 2017

My friend was diagnosed with cancer a week ago. And you know what she said to me? “Pray for God's glory,” she said. Her response was sobering. "Yes, God's glory! And a miracle!" I thought. Unfortunately, cancer is a beast she's familiar with. Years ago she battled it, to its defeat. She knows what the word “cancer” entails. Her memories bear many scars of suffering.

And yet, God's glory is at the forefront of her mind. But why?

Suffering: When Questions Remain Unanswered
Sep 4, 2017

Suffering. A word we are more than merely acquainted with. Unbearable heartache leaves us worn, naked, and vulnerable. Exposure always seeks a hidden place though. Except, our tendency isn't to seek after the One who allowed hardship.
